My Commitment To Making Your Writing Unforgettable

Welcome to Margin Notes. I’m Aanchal Jain. The first time I stayed up all night reading, I was twelve. I don’t remember the book, but I remember the real world fading as I entered the author’s world.

That was the moment I fell in love with stories.

At first, I thought I wanted to write them. I filled notebooks with unfinished plots, wrote half a novel in college, and spent hours lost in my fictional worlds. But somewhere along the way, I realized what really fascinated me wasn’t just telling stories.

It was figuring out how they worked. Why some books kept me up all night and others didn’t. Why some characters felt so real and others fell flat. Why some endings made my heart race, and others made me put the book down, never to pick it up again.

But first I had to earn the right to call myself an editor. So, I spent years in law, where words are picked apart and where clarity is everything. I learned how to untangle complicated ideas, find the strongest arguments, and make sure every word did exactly what it was meant to do. And then, when I switched to editing fiction, I realized the same rules applied.

A great story is a great argument. It has to hold up under scrutiny. It has to be clear. It has to feel inevitable but surprising at the same time.

Most writers don’t need someone to tell them how to write—they need someone who can see the story inside the words and make sure it’s coming through the way they intended. Someone who can spot the weak spots, tighten the tension, refine the language, and make sure every piece of the puzzle fits.

That’s why I started Margin Notes.

Here, we don’t believe in tearing manuscripts apart or making them sound like someone else wrote them. We believe in strengthening your unique voice and making sure every element of your story rises to meet it.

Our job isn’t just to edit your words, but make sure that somewhere, someday, a reader picks up your book, and before they even realize what’s happening, they’re turning pages deep into the night, completely lost in the world you created.

Reading Between the Lines And your mind!

I know what it’s like to be in your shoes.

Writing a book is personal. You’ve poured time, energy, and heart into it. Handing it over for editing? That’s a big step. I get that, and I don’t take it lightly.

I edit with a reader’s eye.

Great storytelling isn’t just about words on a page—it’s about how those words feel to the person reading them. Does the dialogue sound natural? Does the pacing keep them hooked? Does the emotion land? I help you bridge the gap between what’s in your head and what’s on the page.

Editing, but with a side of fun.

I take your book seriously, but the process doesn’t have to feel like a school assignment. Expect a collaborative, engaging experience with thoughtful insights (and maybe a few nerdy bookish jokes)

Aanchal knows how to strike a balance between pushing to get the best out of the story and retaining the original imagination. I wholeheartedly recommend her for her individual attention and her keen eye in identifying what you do well, and where you may have held back. Above all, she is a thorough professional, and extremely invested in what she does and that shows in the many conversations and exchanges you will have with her. She thinks very carefully about what she suggests, which is not just useful, but also competent. I never thought a simple DM on Instagram would turn out to be this amazing experience I have had working with you Aanchal! Hope we get to work again soon!

Incredible line editing and rewrites for my magical court scene. Aanchal, I could not have done it without you, and after seeing the final results, I can honestly say I knew far less about courts than I ever thought I did. Done cleverly and with the right questions to make it all a fit to the rest of my book. Thank you so much. Thanks to you, I'm making my deadline!!!
